I've shopped from Plow & Hearth for years so I was happy to hear about their new fundraising effort. Here's the release:
Plow & Hearth, the fine home and garden catalog (www.plowandhearth.com), and the National Forest Foundation have joined forces to replenish three hard-hit U.S. national forests. Today, the partners officially launched the Campaign to Re-Forest America, which aims to donate one million trees to forests in need, by the end of 2009.
How it works:
At the conclusion of any transaction, Plow and Hearth customers will be able to select one of the following habitats to receive their donation:
San Bernardino National Forest, California: The September 2007 wildfires destroyed more than 14,600 acres.
Huron- Manistee National Forest, Michigan: Depletion of forest has led to a severely diminished nesting habitat for the Kirtland’s warbler.
Ocala National Forest, Florida: More than 30 plant and animal species are threatened or endangered due to the decline of the longleaf pine forest.
People can also choose to donate directly to the program via www.nationalforests.org.
Be sure to check out Plow & Hearth's outlet page for big discounts on favorite items. Like these cozy fleece socks for $4.99 a pair (normally $12.95).

I think this is wonderful. Imagine if every company would give back to the environment or community. What a huge difference it would make. Great deal on the fleece socks too!
