What I Learned on My Summer Vacation

I'm back from my every-other-year trip with seven of my high school girlfriends, and once again, I'm ready to report what I learned.

We toured the Grand Canyon, making it necessary to add a couple of days to our usual trip length in order for everyone to get to Phoenix from various points in the U.S. and then drive to Flagstaff in a rented van. So right off the bat, the most important thing that I learned is that six days is about two days too many. In fact one of our group got very testy on Day 3 and poked the others with a sharp stick.

Wait a minute. That was me.

This trip was about "can'ts", about things that we've learned we can't do after fifty-eight years of life. We're obviously at the point where we're not interested in tempting fate, so we just make general announcements to anyone within hearing distance and move on.

In honor of our trip in this year of our 40th high school reunion, I present the Grand Canyon Canto:

I can't sit in the back of the van or I'll get carsick.

I can't sleep with her. She snores.

I can't have pepperoni on my pizza.

I can't stand that close to the edge without getting dizzy.

I can't sit in the van that long because of my restless leg.

I can't get enough air. Turn up the air conditioning.

I can't get warm. Can we turn that air conditioning off?

I can't start the day without a half a pot of coffee.

I can't believe we already drank that whole case of beer.

Very funny! And how brave of you all to travel in packs. Like the teeshirts, too! I have a limit of 3 girlsfriends (max) that I will travel with at any one time.
